REVIEW: Tropical Smoothie Cafe opens in Batavia

Alexa Schorr

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a rising food chain with healthy snacks. They have seasonal drinks and foods that they will have available at very affordable prices. They continue to create health-conscious, delicious snacks by implementing healthy alternatives rather than certain unhealthy ingredients. The newest location is located on Butterfield Road which opened on Feb 7.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe was founded in 1997 in Atlanta by Eric Jenrich, Delora Jenrich, and David Walker. They sell smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, salads, flatbreads, and bowls. They also sell seasonal foods and smoothies. They say their inspiration is to “spread sunshine and inspire better.”

When entering the cafe the atmosphere is exotic, lively, and offers refreshing scents. The appearance of the smoothies makes the customers feel as if they are on a beach floating away in the sunshine and sea. The bright colors make the patrons feel like they are relaxing in a beach town.

Forbes.com interviewed the CEO of Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Charles Watson, who said, “As their franchise website states: ‘Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s menu boasts bold, flavorful smoothies with a healthy appeal, all made-to-order with quality ingredients. We find that real fruits, veggies, and juices just taste better.”

As Watson said previously, the franchise uses real fruits, veggies, and quality ingredients in all of its smoothies.

All of the food chain’s food/smoothie options are very appetizing, but they have just announced that as of March 24, they will release the spring food and drink options. These items will be available for purchase until May 22. Then the summer items will be released. The spring items being released are the Dragon Fruit Smoothie, Starfruit Smoothie, Citrus Hawaiian Wrap, Jalapeno Corn, and Maple-Kissed Sweet Potatoes.

The most popular smoothies currently available are the Acai Berry Boost, Chia Banana Boost, Avocolada, Detox Island Green, Island Green, and Sunrise Sunset. I have tried the Acai Berry Boost and Sunrise Sunset in the past and both have exceeded my expectations. I can only imagine how the spring snacks are going to taste.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a very delicious but healthy restaurant that has affordable prices. Their regular smoothies are very refreshing and tasteful so I’m excited to try the spring smoothies.

I believe it's technically located in Aurora, not Batavia.
