Winter activities to enjoy in Chicago this season

Chicago is the third largest city in the U.S., which means it is home to rich culture and an all-around arrangement of diverse people with different lifestyles. During the winter season, Chicago is home to many activities.

Ice skating is a very popular exercise that people do when in Chicago.  It is a fun sport that many can do with friends and family. The most famous ice rink is in Millennium Park, located by the Art Museum on the East side. The park district holds skating lessons on Friday and Sunday before the rink opens as well.

The Christkindlmarket located in Chicago is another popular holiday favorite. It is an outdoor market that used to be a German tradition but has become a Chicago institution. This market adds diversity to the crowded Chicago scene and is free. Some foods that are available at the different stands all around include different types of roasted nuts, bratwursts, chocolate and other delicious treats.

The Lincoln Park Zoo is a great family friend place and has a special light ceremony for the start off of winter. Presented on November 24th they flip and switch to light up the whole zoo. Afterwards, for which many can go around and enjoy the spectacular bright lights. Other festive activities include live ice sculpting and train rides.

Shopping is an activity anyone can do at any time but it’s added fun when you are allowed to look at Christmas decorations such as the Macy windows. Located on State Street, these magnificent widows have different moving Christmas scenes. Also when shopping try to walk down Michigan Avenue. “The magnificent mile” is known for its shopping and wonderful decorations.

Last but not least is the Polar Day Adventures, a free but fun trip to the Northerly Island to come face-to-face with live animals. Many go to enjoy one-on-one time with the animals and to also play winter games. They have their own website to help with any more questions.

Chicago is a great winter city with many fun activities to enjoy with friends and family. It is very close and is a fun place to experience new ideas. Grab some friends, take the train, and take a visit up to the wonderful city of Chicago.
