Chelsea Boothe is a highly involved student at Batavia High School. She is a sophomore and participates in many extracurricular activities. These activities include Youth and Government, Mock Trial, Girl Up, Key Club, Student Council, Book Club, LINK, student ambassador for the super attendant, Marching Band, and Model UN. The Batavia Marching Band is highly accomplished, placing first or second in their class for every competition they attended in the 2023 season. Boothe is one of three drum majors, but the other two are seniors.

Q: Tell me about yourself and your involvement in Batavia Music

A: “I’m a sophomore. I have played the concert oboe for four years, I have been a part of the marching band for two years, I have been a part of the pep band for two years, I play the flute and oboe, and I conduct.”

Q: What made you decide to join the marching band?

A: “My brother started marching band when I was eight, and my dad did marching band when he was in high school and college and I grew up with it and fell in love with it.”

Q: What made you decide to be a drum major?

A: “I wanted to be a drum major because I think I have good leadership skills, and conducting seemed interesting to me.”

Q: What are your opinions on the upcoming spaghetti theme for the 2024 season?

A: “I think that the upcoming show will be a fun and exciting show for the students and community. I think that the show will do well in competitions considering that it won in the state of California this year.”

Q: What do you say to anybody thinking about joining the marching band?

A: “I think anyone thinking about joining, I highly encourage. You can make new friends, learn new things, and have a good time.”

Q: What did you think about last year’s theme, the Crow?

A: “I thought that the theme was cool and exciting.”

Q: How do you balance all of these activities along with school?

A: “I prioritize my mental health by taking time for myself to do things that I love, as well.”

Q: Would you consider pursuing music in college?

A: “While I wouldn’t consider music in college because I am pursuing political science, I think it has bettered myself by teaching me various valuable life skills.”
