Varsity athlete Cassidy Carby has played softball for as long as she can remember.  Carby plays shortstop and catcher at the Dennison Silverhawks. Following freshmen year, she is approaching her second season on varsity as a sophomore. Here is insight on her most recent season playing with varsity as a freshman, and future plans as a softball player.

Q: How did your teammates positively or negatively affect you throughout last high school season?

A: “No matter what team it was, my teammates always motivated me to do my best.”

Q: Did you do anything in preparation before high school season to be on varsity?

A:  “Nothing special. I just tried to stay calm and comfortable so I was confident in myself when tryouts came.”

Q: How has being on varsity softball team as a freshman changed you as a player?

A:  “It has taught me that no matter how old you are compared to anyone else, you always have to work hard every day in order to prove yourself to the coaches and to your teammates.”

Q:  Who has gotten you to where you are today?

A: “My dad has made the biggest impact on me. He has always been there for me and always pushes me to do better. If it weren’t for him, I would not be where I am today.”

Q: Are you planning on playing college. If so, where?

A: “Yes, I am planning on playing college softball but I’m not sure where. I want a small Division I school or a big Division II school.”

Q:  What do you do to prepare for college softball?

A: “I work on my basic skills to make sure they stay sharp throughout the season.”

Q: What have you learned as a person throughout softball?  

A:  “That the game is not about winning and losing. It is about loving what you do and making memories with the people you love.”
