Five events BHS students should attend in coming months

By Jayelin Haines

Entering the new year, Batavia High school has lots of events in store for their students. Many annual events are coming back to the school as well as brand new events for all students to enjoy. The list below has just a few options for them to attend!

Rock the Runway

Rock the Runway is an event hosted at the Batavia Fine Arts Center that showcases accessories and dresses made from all sorts of material except for fabric. This annual event has a theme and this year’s show is “Bloom.” The very talented students participating spent many hours on each piece they created. All designs entered are celebrated in one night filled with the love for fashion and creativity. If students are looking for a bit of spring in the gloomy winter months, they should come and check out Rock the Runway on Feb. 14!

Winterfest

This year is the first-ever Winterfest at Batavia High School. It is a neon music festival filled with dancing, games, inflatable challenges and much more. This event travels to many schools in the area and turns each one into a glow-in-the-dark party for students to enjoy. If students are looking for a good time with their friends, this is the event for them! Batavia High School is holding it on March 7 and tickets are $20 apiece.

Girls’ and Boys’ basketball games

Batavia basketball games are a great place to show your bulldog pride! Come down to the main gym at BHS to support our school’s basketball teams! Along with the games themselves, many other groups participate to make the games enjoyable for everyone. Throughout the game, the BHS cheerleaders pump up the crowd with the help of their VTP (Vocational Transition Program) buddies. Then at halftime, BHS’s state-bound dance team performs for the student section. Another group there is the Pep Band, who also plays throwback pep tunes throughout the game. All students get in free with their ID’s so check out the schedule and join the fun!

Spring Play

This year’s spring play is “Much Ado About Nothing”! This is an exciting classic play written by William Shakspere and fitted to the Batavia Fine Arts Center’s stage. This story is brimming with love, drama, and mystery. These talented students work many hours to put on wonderful shows each season and this is one students won’t want to miss. Come down to the BFAC on April 16-18 to see the show.

Music Buffs Gala

If students are looking to supporting their local music community and listen to a night of jazz, then the Gala is a great choice. This Gala is a formal event open to the public filled with dancing, silent auctions, raffles, and amazing food. Many student performances are put on here from the following groups: BHS Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra, Show Choir, and String Theory. Come down to the Q Center in St. Charles on March 13 to see these hard-working students’ work come to life.
