This year the Boy’s Batavia High School Lacrosse Team ended its season before their first game took place. On Friday, March 13, school and all spring sporting events were canceled until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, Brian Clark, a senior, will never step on the field again. Even though his high school career ended abruptly, he reflected on his experience with the team and the memories he made during the last four years.

Q: What is your position?

A: “I’m a face-off midfielder.”

Q: How many years have you played?

A: “I have played for six years.”

Q: What appealed to you about lacrosse? 

A: “When I was in middle school, the high school coach came and talked about the sport and that got me interested in it. Then I started going to clinics that were hosted at the high school. I also started to watch college lacrosse highlights on TV and tried out at River City Lacrosse for a year. It didn’t take long until I was hooked! I’ve been playing ever since.”

Q: What is your favorite part of the game?

A: “The lacrosse community is tight and rivals still care and respect each other. Overall, everyone plays pretty fairly, so it is a very fun, good team game.”

Q: Is there a chance the season can be salvaged?

A: “Right now, they have completely postponed everything, but there is talk about playing during the summer.”

Q: What was the team’s reaction to canceling the season?  

A: “Most people were pretty upset because we had a complete program change and had new coaches. Everyone was hyped about the season until it got ruined.”

Q: What was your favorite part of the team?

A: “My teammates made it great. Everyone was very tight and we miss each other because of the quarantine.”

Q: What was your favorite moment?

A: “That’s easy! My sophomore year (2018) when we beat Geneva High School in double overtime.”

Q: Who are your biggest rivals?

A: “Geneva High School, Downers Grove South High School, and Marmion Academy.”

Q: What will you miss about your season?

A: “I’ll miss my teammates, practices, games, and everything about it.”

Q: Will you continue to play lacrosse in college?

A: “I’m actually not going to college. After graduation, I’m going to attend a local trade school, but I plan to play in some summer and winter leagues.”
