Top 5 Holiday Activities

Looking for some fun ideas to do this December to get you into the holiday spirit? Check out these top five winter activities that are sure to create great memories while enjoying Christmas time!

1. Make holiday cookies

Go to your local grocery store and pick up a pack of holiday cookies or purchase ingredients to make them homemade. Feel free to cut the dough into stars, trees, and any holiday shaped pattern of your choice. Once they are done baking be sure to decorate them with frostings and holiday designs. You can create these festive cookies with the help of family or friends. These are a cute and delicious way to get into the holiday spirit.

2. Go sledding

There are so many places you and you friends and family can go sledding. All you need is a sled and a hill full of snow. Gliding down hills is an exciting activity that allows you to enjoy the winter snow. Make sure you bundle up for sledding and head on down to the Fabyan Windmill located in Geneva, Ill. Here, there is a huge hill that is used for sledding throughout the season. You can also venture out on your own and find other big hills to slide down.

3. Christmas movie marathons

Take a day to lay down and watch some old Christmas movie classics like Home Alone, Elf, The Polar Express, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and many more! Put on some comfy clothes and make a cup of hot chocolate to make the movie moments even better. This is a nice, relaxing way to enjoy the holidays and allows you to revisit some of the hilarious holiday classics.

4. Look at lights

The lights set up during winter are what makes the streets full of the holiday spirit so go out and enjoy how beautiful they are! Whether it’s driving through the streets or going to visit a huge light display, get out there and enjoy the holiday season by viewing the different decorations. There is a wonderful light display at Mooseheart that is on every day from 5:00 pm-9:00 pm everyday until December 31. Make sure to stop at this 1.8-mile light show that was named one of Chicagoland’s largest light displays!

5. Ice skating

Head on down to the Fox Valley Ice Arena located in Geneva, Ill. Here they have numerous hours set up for public skate on their rinks. They have skating for the public every weekend and from December 17 through January 1, they have it every day! You will also be getting some good exercise when skating around the rink. This would be an enjoyable activity to do with your friends or family over break.
