Treats to bake in December

By Claire Gearhart

In some households, baking is almost considered a religious experience during the holiday season. Baking provides an outlet for getting together and for exploring a more creative side. But what baking treats are a bust, and which ones will bring the family together? Which ones will have the mouth dancing and which ones ruin the night? Here’s a list of the top three treats to bake this holiday season:

Hot Chocolate Cake:

On cold winter nights, after playing outside for hours, the best thing to give to a kid to warm their tummies, and make them feel the love that the holiday time brings, is hot chocolate. Hot chocolate has always been the best thing to drink that comes in a variety of many different flavors, and is perfect when the earth freezes. But what about those days when no one’s in the mood for scalding their tongue and wasting time stirring a spoon in a cup? A delectable, mouth-watering, finger-licking Hot Chocolate Cake. Made with real hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows, this treat is sure to put anyone in the holiday spirit with all it’s chocolatey goodness.

Old Fashioned GingerBread:

Gingerbread cookies are known for delicious architecture with frosting and gumdrops, but what many people may not know is that actual gingerbread is a soft, luxurious, heavenly treat that can treat the senses to a wonder of charming things. Just as easy to make as it is to eat this treat is wonderful for any kind occasion, especially the holiday type.

Buche de Noel:

Buche de Noel is a wonderfully decorated, beautifully made, and exquisite tasting cake. This treat is a common one in France and sounds and looks quite fancy, but is easy and fun to make. Making this is perfect for spending time with the kids and teaching them not only a few things about baking, but a few things about patience while decorating. It’s a great way to impress friends and family with baking dexterity, and if done right, decorating expertise. Buche de Noel is a splendid way to explore creative skills and the result is an appetizing, succulent, mouthwatering treat fit for a king.
