Movies to look out for at the Oscars

The Oscars are just around the corner and this year has been another great one for movies. Wondering what movies could steal Best Picture? Or Best Actress? Read on to find which movies could take home an award this year.

 

A Star Is BornStarring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga

A Star Is Born follows a drug-addict musician finding stardom in a young songwriter, who rises to fame as he falls from grace. It was released on Oct. 5 and its total grossing has earned over $154 million. Categories this blockbuster could steal are best picture, best director and best actor for Bradley Cooper, and best actress for Lady Gaga. They could also take home best original song for their hit song, “Shallow.”

 

A Quiet PlaceStarring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt

A Quiet Place follows the story of a family of four living in silence, being threatened by creatures that hunt by sound. The hit movie came out on April 6 and has grossed over $188 million. A Quiet Place might steal best sound mixing, best original screenplay, and best film editing. The film editor that took a big part in the film editing was Christopher Tellefsen, whose efforts could help the movie take home the award.

 

Black PantherStarring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan

Black Panther tells the story of a prince rising to the throne after his father’s death, but is faced with foes that keep him from his rightful spot. It debuted on Feb. 16 and has grossed over $700 million. People should look for Black Panther to possibly take home best picture, best original score, and best original song with “All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA. Michael B. Jordan could also be in the mix to take home the award for best supporting actor.

 

Beautiful BoyStarring Steve Carrell and Timothée Chalamet

Beautiful Boy follows the story of a father struggling to keep his son from overdosing while trying to get back the son he once had. It was released on Oct. 12 and has grossed over $1.8 million. Categories to watch out for this movie are best picture, best actor for Steve Carrell, and best supporting actor for Timothée Chalamet. This could be Chalamet’s first Academy win.

 

First ManStarring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy

First Man is the biography of astronaut Neil Armstrong and his legendary mission to space, which made him the first man to walk the moon. This blockbuster hit all theaters on Oct. 12 and has grossed over $39 million. Ryan Gosling can steal best actor for this one and Claire Foy could take home best supporting actress. Other awards First Man can steal are best picture, best director, and best cinematography.

 

Ready Player OneStarring Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke

Ready Player One follows the story of a teenager in 2044 who tries to find an easter egg in a virtual reality video game in hopes of collecting the founder’s fortune. It was released on March 29 and has grossed over $137 million. Ready Player One can take home awards such as best visual effects, best sound editing, and best sound mixing.
