OPINION: Private lives of celebrities shouldn’t be discussed publicly

By Grace Bennett

Sometimes the lives of celebrities are like an open book. To us, going out for dinner is just a simple task where we don’t have to worry about the paparazzi. Recently lots of rumors have been going around on the subject of Kim and Kanye’s relationship, Jojo Siwi coming out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and Gigi Hadid announcing the name of her four-month-old baby girl.

Should these things have to be so open to the public eye? I personally think that celebrities should expect some sort of invasion, but they deserve more privacy. They are constantly attacked by magazines, and articles for the smallest things.

Instead of being treated like objects, they should be recognized as human beings. Yes, everybody wants to know what’s going on with Kim and Kanye but shouldn’t they have the right to a quiet divorce with no added drama? And yes, Jojo Siwa coming out is a big deal especially since she has a younger audience but shouldn’t it be normalized? And yes, since Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s baby girl was born, everybody was dying to know her name. Gigi made a subtle move and added “Khai’s mom” to her Instagram bio.

Some may argue that celebrities shouldn’t have privacy because they are constantly in the public eye and people of all ages look up to them as role models.

“It’s perfectly reasonable for the press and paparazzi to go after their personal lives,” A news source said in an article. But why? Just imagine if every single thing you did was written about in articles and magazines. You probably wouldn’t be able to have a steady dating life. Recent rumors of Harry Styles breaking up Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis’ relationship, just because they were spotted holding hands. Why does everyone have to invade their space and assume things when that’s the only thing that has happened. If they didn’t confirm it, why is everyone assuming they are dating.  Everyone deserves privacy even if they have fans looking up to them. At the end of the day, they’re all still regular people. They get mad, upset, and overwhelmed. So just let them do what they need to do in private.
