Top 5 Rap / Hip Hop Albums to Look Forward to in 2020

By Nelson Rerko

  • Lil Uzi Vert – Eternal Atake
    • Eternal Atake, which would be Uzi’s third studio album, has been a long-awaited project from Lil Uzi Vert. It was announced back in July of 2018. Since then, we’ve had two leaked songs that Uzi ended up posting, and the first single from the album, “Futsal Shuffle”. Uzi’s fans haven’t been very patient while waiting for this album. Many fans have been selling his songs, or leaking them, and uploading them onto sites like Soundcloud and Youtube. Since late 2019, the leaks have slowed down, and talks of Eternal Atake dropping are becoming more and more near, with it expected to drop in 2020.
  • Playboi Carti – Whole Lotta Red
    • The wait for Playboi Carti’s third studio album has been one of the most impatient waits for an album in a long time. All throughout 2019, there was at least one new leaked song every week. The impatience from his fans, with the constant leaks of music, caused the release to be pushed further back each time. Carti has addressed the leaks several times, expressing his dislike for them. “I haven’t released anything. I hate leaks,” Carti said back in June of 2019. No official release date has been announced, but Carti has said multiple times that the album is finished.
  • Young Thug – Punk
    • Despite Young Thug releasing his studio album So Much Fun just back in August of 2019, he’s expected to be releasing another one, titled Punk, in February of 2020. Young Thug had lots of mainstream success with his first studio album, having its debut at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts, and having nine songs from there hit the Billboard Hot 100. Thug plans to keep this success up, as he has become a very well-known name among all fans of the rap game. Fans of Thug’s will be waiting for February to come and new music to release.
  • Lil Baby – My Turn
    • Lil Baby quickly became not only one of the best-known rappers in Atlanta but one of the best known in the entire rap game in just the past 2 years. Alongside his frequent collaborator and friend Gunna, Lil Baby plans to make 2020 his year with the release of his next studio album, My Turn. Lil Baby’s latest single, “Woah,” capitalizes on that signature Lil Baby sound, while carrying the beat the whole way, with no help from features. Lil Baby claimed back in December he had a mixtape waiting to be released, as well, so these announcements left Baby fans excited.
  • Migos – Culture III
    • Back in 2017 and 2018, Migos became the most popular rap group we’ve seen to date. The power trio was releasing hit after hit. After releasing Culture II, the album topped the US Billboard 200 and tied the Beatles record for most simultaneous Hot 100 entries as a group, which is 14. The Migos would most certainly like to continue the success as they aim to release their third installment of the Culture series. Culture II, released in January of 2018, and Culture released in January of 2017, have been the Migos’ latest releases, and that goes without saying that that’s a long time without any new music. Migos’ fans will just have to wait until they hear an expected release date for Culture III.
